This issue highlights “Tips and Trends,” a web page provided by the ACRL Instruction Section’s Instructional Technology Committee:
“Tips and Trends” is a series of reports on technologies that can be used in library instruction. Each issue, written by members of the ACRL Instruction Section’s Instructional Technology Committee, explores “new, emerging, or even familiar technology” and discusses their potential application in library instruction. Recent issues include “Facebook,” “Second Life,” “Electronic Whiteboards,” and “YouTube.” Issues are published one or more times per year.
Newer issues feature a consistent format with sections such as an overview and definition of the tool, basis for current interest, current applications in academic libraries and higher education, current application in academic library instruction, potential value and/or hurdles, and references and further readings. The most recent issues are available in both PDF and HTML formats. The first couple of issues – “Survey of Multimedia Software Creation” and “Use of Course Management Systems” - include questions posted to ILI-L along with responses from list members.
“Tips and Trends” includes helpful information on online environments, instructional software and other tools, with examples of their use in specific institutions. Check this site for background and practical ideas on a variety of technologies that you can use in your teaching.
