Shining the Spotlight on . . .
The AASL Crisis Toolkit
This recent toolkit may offer you just the guidance you need if you are facing budget cuts or program reductions. The toolkit addresses many aspects of crisis planning providing specific strategies for:
- Defining the situation by determining who is making the decisions and why.
- Establishing the mission by developing goals, a vision, objectives, and a timeline
- Creating a sound communication structure
- Identifying stakeholders
- Crafting and sharing messages that are child-centered.
- Getting people involved
In addition, you will find guidance for gaining state and national support plus links to many research studies that will provide empirical support for the value of libraries in preparing students for higher education and entering the workforce.
Finally, this toolkit also includes links to advocacy programs that have made a real difference like “How Three Moms Save their School Libraries and Created an Advocacy Model for the Rest of Us.”
This toolkit is nicely organized and chock full of very useful ideas. Click on the link in the first paragraph to review it or use the address in the Reference below.
